Lafourche Parish Fire District #3 is located in Southeast Louisiana bordering the Gulf of Mexico.  We are a combination fire department, composed of 22 employees and 130 volunteers.  Our telecommunication center, Central Dispatch, is a start-of-the-art facility.  We dispatch for Fire Department, Lafourche Ambulance, and Harbor Police.

Firefighters' Heroic Act Saves 6 year old

We are all aware of the potential dangers of the Port Fourchon Beach rip tides.  Unfortunately our visiting tourists are not as informed of these dangers.  Due to the recent events at the Port Fourchon Beach, the firefighters have been training diligently to better prepare themselves for a water search.  They are in the process of seeking training from Galveston Beach Fire & Police Department.  These firefighters are doing everything in their power to be better assets to our community.  Lafourche Parish Fire District #3 volunteer firefighters have recently teamed up with Harbor Police officers from the Greater Lafourche Port Commission to ensure safety on the Port Fourchon Beach by utilizing firefighters for extra patrol.  On Friday, July 4, 2008, at 1744 hours, firefighters Derrik Bouziga and Eric Guidry were performing routine beach patrol when they observed a male subject approximately 6 years of age struggling to stay above water in a rip current past the last barge to the west.  As firefighters swam out to the subject, a concerned citizen, who was in the area of barge, also made entry into the water.  The citizen reached the juvenile first and began struggling to escape the rip current.  At that point, firefighters reached the two subjects and brought them safely to shore.  The juvenile was given first aid by the firefighters and released to his parents.  Robbie Lefort, a volunteer firefighter, was enjoying a day at the beach and also assisted in the water rescue.  At the July LPFD#3 Board Meeting, Derrik Bouziga, Eric Guidry, and Robbie Lefort were each given a letter of accommodation for their heroic act.
